Great graphics, engaging story and cool gadgets and weapons-design. Solid multiplayer and an intriguing co-op mode.

The story is fun, but quickly becomes predictable. There are a few bugs in the co-op mode, and some of the games new features feel underdeveloped/underused.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a very, very good-looking game, with a roller coaster ride of a story that takes you to many locations, through varied missions that last an above average amount of time for an FPS. The gun mechanics are as solid as ever, and the gun designs are futuristic and enjoyable to use. The new gadgets, namely the Exo Suit, are well implemented, and add a new layer of gameplay to Advanced Warfare that has been long overdue in the CoD series. The multiplayer elements are solid, and the addition of the new futuristic arsenal at your disposal adds new and fun ways to “own” your friends.

The co-op element is a horde style, mission based, survival mode and has a lot to offer, such as varied weapon choices and and upgrades to customise your character as you play. Co-op mode makes you choose from specific gun types, and you subsequently play a style according to your choice, focusing the gameplay towards teamwork rather than a “lone-wolf” style of gameplay.
Co-op mode does however have some glitches. It’s far too easy to get some of the, supposedly, more difficult achievements, which reduces the ‘come back/replayability’ appeal these achievements would otherwise have afforded the game.

The story itself is well-acted and interesting, but it quickly becomes very predictable – the plot twists can be seen from a mile away. The new climbing mechanism is cool at first, but it soon feels like it doesn’t live up to it’s potential, as it could have been so much more than simply a way to traverse terrain levels.

All in all, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare deserves to be part of the CoD series. It has it all; a fun and enjoyable single player, and an intriguing co-op mode with achievements and aspects that will keep you coming back, just to get a little further. CoD:AW continues to push the already solid multiplayer mode of this long-lasting franchise to new, and more enjoyable, heights.
