Assassin’s Creed IV : Black Flag (PS4)

Assassins Creed IV Black Flag - A Pirates Life for me

It’s actually quite hard to re-review a game, but there is something special about this installment of the Assassin’s Creed series that encouraged me to play it all over again on the Next Generation (PlayStation 4), and to be brutally honest, I was NOT disappointed. In fact, I was giggling away like a kid on Christmas morning. This version of the game is considerably better than it’s PS3 counterpart, but not only due to the better graphics (they are gorgeous) but mainly because of the smoothness and the frame rate. The PS4 doesn’t drop a frame anywhere. It truly is a Mozart of consoles, breezing through seemingly intricate landscapes and cut scenes like a prodigy, and this is really where the Next Gen Consoles are coming out on top.

If you’ve read my review on the PS4, you’ll know I commented on the pad on the Dual Shock 4. Well, the PS4 version of AC IV: BF makes an interesting use of this Track-pad by using it as a method for interacting with the game play map. This works better than expected, but it didn’t really add anything significant to the game-experience.

So is it worth getting for the PS4 if you already have a PS3? Maybe. It’s a great game, with great re-playability along with watchability. The smoother graphics and frame rate only make that truer, but whether or not you’re prepared to spend the extra cash is totally up to you.

The game just runs like a dream, so smooth with no frame loss whatsoever. Because everything runs so smoothly, it actually makes the game a lot easier, you hit less boxes whilst trying to free-run. Naval combat is just too much fun.

Dislikes

It is still the same game as the current generation, with the same repetitive side missions.

So there you have it, my mini-not-so-mini review of the PS4 version AC IV: BF – for a more specific review of game content, read our review on the PS3 version of the game:

#AC4BlackFlag Caribbean naval combat is amazing. Unchanged land combat & some repetitive missions. Great characters & interesting elements
